Important notice:Dear Members and Friends:The American Celiac Society has returned to the New Orleans area after evacuating because of hurricane Katrina. We wish to thank all the well wishes for their concerns and prayers. Now that we are back we have discovered our postal services are very limited because the New Orleans post office was significantly damaged. This has caused us to only mail first class and restricted sending out a newsletter in the Fall of 2005. Many individuals and companies have been generous in their contribution to agencies such as the Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc. Unfortunately, we are not able to qualify as recipient of such funds. We are seeking grant sources, but again this is a lengthily and difficult course of revenue. We need your help to come back and move forward. We are seriously concerned for all the displaced celiacs and need to establish a means of contacting them as well as seting up a system for future horrific events. We tried working with the established agencies during the hurricane to provide food for victims but received a cold shoulder and unwilling listeners. It appears that individuals on special diets must work with each other and fend for themselves in times like this. Thus far we have had contact with many celiacs and diabetics that found it difficult if not impossible to follow their medically necessary diet during the evacuation. The American Celiac Society feels that no one should be denied food just because they are on a special diet. Many have returned with loss of family and friends, to destroyed homes, destroyed places to find special food, many in turmoil because of governmental incompetence. Please find the link for our Dietary Emergency Survey share it with others and complete it if you were an evacuatee because of the hurricane. This may help in us securing grant funding. If you can help in any way financially, it would be greatly appreciated. Donations may be sent to: American Celiac Society, P O Box 23455, New Orleans, LA 70183 or by credit card online. Sincerely Annette & James Bentley Wishes for health, happiness, and blessings Annette Bentley, BA, MSc President, American Celiac Society PO Box 23455 New Orleans, LA 70183-0455 504-737-3293 For information about American Celiac Society please contact: info@americanceliacsociety.org Contents Copyright ©1973-2005 American Celiac Society 501 (a) 501 (c) (3) Non Profit Organization Contact Webmaster |
